Brewer for the Day experience up for grabs at flagship festival

Attendees at this year’s Great British Beer Festival (2-6 August Olympia London) will have a unique opportunity to be a Brewer for the Day at Five Points in Hackney, East London.

The experience will be part of the Thursday (4 August) night auction at the festival and the top bidder and a friend will get to spend a great day with the head brewer Greg Hobbs (pictured on left). The winner will have the chance to assist with the day’s brew and head home with a selection of Five Points' brews.

Five Points began in a railway arch in 2013 and has grown significantly from its original 10-barrel kit, moving further south down Mare Street to accommodate the expansion with new tanks and a taproom. Its reputation for quality has also grown and it took silver in CAMRA’s Golden Ale category in the Champion Beer of Britain competition in 2019.

Organiser Christine Cryne said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to get some hands-on experience with an award-winning London brewery. If we’ve managed to whet your appetite, you can get a taste of its beers ahead of the festival by popping along to the Five Points owned Pembury Tavern, not far from Hackney Central station. Don’t forget to try the Best, a traditional bitter using just British Goldings hops.”

The experience date is to be agreed between the winning bidder and the brewery. If you are unable to attend the festival for the auction postal bids are accepted. To submit a postal bid contact Bill Austin 07789 900411 baustin1951@btinternet.com
