CAMRA has added new content from top beer writers to its award-winning Learn & Discover platform.
The beginners’ guides now include:
- Demystifying IPA by Hollie Stephens – confused by the Indian Pale Ale styles? This guide demystifies the beer with a rundown of seven IPA variants, from the contemporary New England to the traditional British.
- Choosing the right beer by Adrian Tierney-Jones – the author of the newly released CAMRA United Kingdom of Beer has developed a video guide with Topsham Tap head brewer Declan Beeson, showcasing six beers from the book. The video shares tasting notes and provides the background of each beer plus suggesting the perfect occasions to drink them.
- An introduction to grisette by Ruvani de Silva – this describes both the flavour and history of this refreshing yet elusive farmhouse ale. It includes the contemporary brewers who have attempted to make the French-Belgian brew.
- Intro to clubs by Katie Mather – an insight into the world of social clubs and how they remain relevant today, more than 120 years since their foundation. Katie plots the 19th-century origins of working men’s clubs and how they have evolved to become community hubs.
For beer enthusiasts wanting to learn more there's:
- Brewing with flaked grains by Hollie Stephens – discover the art of brewing with unmalted flaked grain to create beer attributes such as a fuller mouthfeel. Hollie explains how witbier, oatmeal stouts and New England IPAs benefit from the use of adjuncts during brewing.
- Spent grain: tips for homebrewers by Ruvani de Silva – this tackles how waste material can be recycled to make brewing more environmentally friendly. Spent grain can be used for cooking and farming plus it covers how innovative breweries repurpose their waste by-products.
- Learn more about finings by Matthew Curtis – clarity on beer opacity with this detailed explanation of the use of finings during brewing. Matthew describes why some brewers now prefer to produce naturally hazy beer while some beer lovers still view clarity as a mark of quality.
