With under a month to go until CAMRA welcomes you back to Dundee, the organising committee has had its last site visit to Caird Hall and is looking forward to putting on a great event.
The beer list is almost complete and, if logistics permit, it’s planned to have beers from Northern Ireland, notwithstanding the fact it will become its own region early next month. As usual, Scottish breweries have given a lot of assistance to make sure there is a range of strengths and styles which showcase the best of the country’s brewing.
It wouldn’t be Members’ Weekend without pub tours and brewery trips. The handbook will include tours of three places which are easily accessible from Dundee: Broughty Ferry, a short train or bus journey away; St Andrews, which is either 45 minutes on the bus or 10 minutes by train to Leuchars and 20 minutes on the bus from there; and Perth, which is just 20 minutes away on the train. Trips have been arranged to Innis & Gunn, Law, Carn O’Mohr Cider and 71 Brewing.
As it is the 50th anniversary of the first branch in Scotland, and the main reason CAMRA has returned to Dundee so soon, the Campaign has commissioned special glasses. These have the Members’ Weekend logo on one side and the anniversary logo on the other and will be available to buy over the weekend. A malt whisky has not been comissioned this year, but there are still a limited number of bottles remaining from 2019 available.
On the Saturday lunchtime there will be a recital by Timara Easter on the Caird Hall concert organ, which dates back to 1923. With the seating for the Members’ Bar being at the back of the main conference hall, you will be able to experience the fine acoustics. Donations to help with the upkeep of the organ can be made on site or via: www.focho.org
