CAMRA’s Learn & Discover platform has a new article on hop compounds by Coalition Brewing’s Charlotte Cook, taking a detailed look at the chemistry, flavours and aromas.
Available exclusively for CAMRA members, Understanding Hop Compounds is one of the most detailed articles on the platform. It is key for a brewer to understand how to best use available hops and that requires a knowledge of their chemistry including alpha acids, terpenoids, thiols and how they affect the flavour of beer.

Charlotte Cook is head brewer at Coalition brewery in South London and has a Master of Science degree in brewing science. Light-hearted images by Leeds-based illustrator Christine Jopling accompany Charlotte’s writing.
Learning & Discovery manager Alex Metcalfe said: “All the collaborators for Learn & Discover are experts in the industry and Charlotte Cook demonstrates her mastery of brewing with aplomb.
“For such a detailed guide to be released so soon after winning a major British Guild of Beer Writers award shows that CAMRA is not easing off the pedal, and there will be more content published before the end of the year.”
