Queer Brewing has revealed its first beer celebrating Pride month which will also help raise money for LGBTQ+ charity, Opening Doors.
Pride Pils (5.2 per cent ABV) is a Czech-inspired pilsner made with pilsner malt and spicy notes from the Lubelski and Hallertau MittelfrĂĽh hops.
The beer will be officially launched on 2 June in a series of mini tap takeovers at bars and taprooms in areas with Pride events. Queer Brewing founder Lily Waite said: “I’ve long maintained that for both myself, as a queer trans woman, and so many LGBTQ+ people every month is Pride month, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do something extra special for June.
“This year we’re throwing ourselves into the spirit of Pride, supporting local and regional events all over the country, taking part in the Ask for Clive campaign’s Pub Pride as its national beer partner, and releasing our own Pride Pils."
The can’s label design (pictured) takes inspiration from 1970s and 1980s beer branding as well Daniel Quasar's Progress Pride flag. The flags set out to incorporate a more inclusive spectrum of people and their identities than the previous iteration.
Opening Doors is the only dedicated national charity connecting LGBTQ+ people over 50 with activities, events, support and information. It also provides accredited training to professionals, conduct research, and create policy. Opening Doors will receive 10 per cent of Pride Pils proceeds.
The Queer Brewing Project was founded in 2019 to provide visibility and representation for LGBTQ+ people in and around beer, build a community, advocate for their rights and raise money for related charities.
