British Cider Week 2023

British Cider Week (14-22 April) is a collaboration of cider makers, retailers and venues from across the United Kingdom to celebrate the depth and diversity of the drink. The week is packed with events and activities involving a wide range of producers, from new young start-ups to traditional producers with generations of heritage.

Two days of interactive workshops and seminars featuring more than 20 speakers and panellists presenting on a range of topics, from orchard techniques and discussions on cider making to business practice presentations.

Ross Cider on Tour, 14-23 April

Orchard Tour & Tasting, 15 & 22 April, 11am-2pm

Harry's Cider Littlefield Lane, Long Sutton, Langport, Somerset, TA10 9NS

Enjoy a behind the scenes view of Harry’s Cider with an in-depth tour of the Somerset cidery. Learn about the apple harvest and how the trees are cared for with a walk around the orchard, then see how the cider is made and matured in the tank room. The tours, lasting around two hours, will be accompanied by a full tasting of the producer’s range with a pairing of a vintage local cheddar.

Cider Shed & Orchard Walking Tour, 15 & 16 April, 3.30pm-6.30pm

Cranborne Chase Cider, Myncen Farm, Minchington, Blandford Forum, Dorset, DT11 8DH

Explore the home of Cranborne Chase Cider with a tour of the orchard, cider shed and surrounding countryside. Over the course of a three-mile walk, guests will learn how different types of cider and apple juice are made. The tour will also include tastings and a cheese ploughman’s lunch.

Little Pomona opens its doors for a tour and tasting experience. Starting with a welcome drink, visitors will discover the Brook House Farm’s Garden Orchard, mini vineyard and young quince orchard, before going behind the scenes into the cidery to see how Little Pomona produces and matures its cider. The tour concludes with a tutored tasting of its ciders and perries, expertly matched with cheese by Neals Yard Dairy.

A series of talks and lectures about cider and its apple heritage with an introduction by Matilda Temperley. Liz Copas will discuss Lost Orchards: Rediscovering Old Cider Apples and James Crowden will present Somerset Cider – Ancient & Modern. The seminars will feature samples of cider using apples from Kingsbury Episcopi.

Cider maker and author, Claude Jolicoeur, will be visiting the UK to launch his latest book Cider Planet. The new title shines a light on the producers, practices and unique traditions of craft cider and perry from around the world.

Sandford Orchards, The Ciderworks, Commonmarsh Lane, Crediton, Devon, EX17 1HU

An rare opportunity to visit the Sandford Orchards’ cellar. This chance happens only once a year and lucky visitors can expect to taste firm favourites before they are bottled, rare ciders straight from the wood and even versions which may never see the light of day. This is a chance to learn what the cider makers are looking for when they are creating blends and to discover the different flavours as they mature. The tour will include tastings with complimentary cheese and charcuterie boards and will conclude with a question-and-answer session with the Sandford Orchard principal cider makers.

Learn all about Sheppy’s Cider with a guided tour from David Sheppy himself. The behind-the-scenes tour will include a visit to the orchards, vat houses and press house. Walk, Talk & Taste, 22 April, 2pm-4pm

Greggs Pit Cider & Perry, B4024, Ledbury, Herefordshire, HR8 2NL

Take part in a guided walk through traditional orchards managed for craft cider and perry production and nature conservation. Visitors will see perry pear trees that are more than 300 years old, including the mother tree of the Gregg’s Pit variety. Enjoy tastings of draught and bottled products made on-site too.
