Don’t miss CAMRA’s winter beer extravaganza

There's less than four weeks to go until the start of CAMRA’s Great British Beer Festival Winter, taking place in the spiritual home of the brewing industry Burton upon Trent from 16-18 February.

There is still time to buy tickets for the event, that features not just strong, dark winter brews, but light and hoppy ales too.

The event will host the Champion Winter Beer of Britain competition with the winners featuring at the Great British Beer Festival in London in the summer in search of the overall title.

The winter festival will feature hundreds of cask and craft beers, ciders, perries and gin at Burton Town Hall, where visitors will also be able to enjoy a range of entertainment and food.

It marks the return of the festival following a two-year hiatus due to Covid restrictions. The festival was last hosted in Birmingham and moves around the country every three years.

CAMRA national chairman Nik Antona said: “We are absolutely delighted to bring the Great British Beer Festival Winter to Burton upon Trent, the home of so much brewing and beer history.

“The return of the festival is a strong signal to the industry that CAMRA is back in business post-pandemic, and fully committed to delivering its huge portfolio of beer festivals, bringing great beer to every corner of the UK.”

With a glass, programme and beer token worth £8 for CAMRA members included in the ticket price, it’s fantastic value for money so don’t miss out.

The festival’s chosen charity is Burton HOPE, a charity run by unpaid volunteers. Founded in 2017 to aid homeless people in the places where they sleep and trying to find ways to improve their situation by bringing awareness to their plight.

This was done by constant social-media posts, newspaper/radio and even BBC News articles. By highlighting the awful conditions in which homeless people live brought forth a volunteer army, wishing to make change.

HOPE has various premises including two food banks in Burton upon Trent containing clothes, toiletries, women’s sanitary items, homeless equipment and, of course, food.

Both food banks have Food Standards Agency five-star ratings. During 2021 the food parcels given out contained 48,679 meals. This year, the number is expected to dramatically increase.
