Cider’s coming home to Hereford

To celebrate the 2022 harvest, Hereford is bringing the world of the apple into the city.

In the first annual Hereford Apple Fest (1-15 October) businesses, councils, cider producers and community groups are banding together to provide an array of entertainment.

Activities include live music, children’s activities, giveaways, themed trails, guest speakers, visits with artisan cider and apple juice producers, virtual reality experiences, plus feasts and tastings.

Bookended by activities for all ages in High Town on 1 October and at the Museum of Cider on 15 October, the festival will see fringe events during the week in the city and throughout the county.

For 8-9 October, the Big Apple Harvestime Festival will be taking place in nearby Much Marcle, coupled with the inaugural Hereford AppleFest banquet on the Saturday in Hereford’s historic Town Hall.

Herefordshire has more than 15,000 acres of orchards producing 150,000 tonnes of apples and pears each year, alongside dozens of cider makers dotted around the county.

“With the region having the perfect soils and weather to grow the finest apples in the world, not to mention centuries of experience in crafting fine apple juice and cider and perry, there’s no better place to visit to celebrate this special fruit,” said a spokesperson for the event.

CAMRA is supporting Hereford City Council, Hereford City Life, Herefordshire Council, Big Apple Harvestime, Hereford Cathedral, Encore Enterprises, Hereford College of Arts, Little Pomona Orchard & Cidery, Museum of Cider, and Rural Media to put on the event.
