A photo (above) of Theakston’s journeyman cooper Euan Findlay by the Yorkshire Post’s Simon Hulme has been named Business winner at the British Press Photography Association (BPPA)’s annual awards.

The image, which features Euan demonstrating the art of cask making at the Yorkshire brewery’s in-house cooperage, was captured by Hulme in September, almost a year after the young cooper was trussed in marking the end of his apprenticeship.

Theakston joint MD Simon Theakston said: “As one of the last breweries in the UK to have an in-house cooper we’re proud of the craftmanship which goes into cask making, and Simon’s photo of Euan captures this perfectly.

“I’d like to pass on a massive congratulations from everyone at T&R Theakston to Simon and the team at the Yorkshire Post on this award win.”
