Closed brewery’s past celebrated

A shut brewery’s close to 200 years of production has been marked by CAMRA’s West Cumbria branch with a display of memorabilia rescued from the site.

Closed last November, Jennings brewery in Cockermouth, Cumbria, is now up for sale and its production moved to Staffordshire.

The branch, with the agreement of brewery owner Carlsberg Marston’s, was able to rescue a number of historical items from the Castle brewery. These included pictures, posters, brewing equipment, pump clips, beer pumps and brewing tools.

Branch spokesman Len Wainwright said: “These are now displayed in the windows of Firns shop in Station Street, Cockermouth along with a history of the brewery from its founding in 1828 to its closure by Carlsberg Marston’s in November 2022.”

The exhibition lasts for a month, after that West Cumbria branch plans to look at distributing the memorabilia around pubs in the area with links to Jennings.
