Pub raises money to help save heart attack victims

A licensee who brought a customer back from the brink after he suffered a heart attack is now raising money for a defibrillator to serve the community.

Roger Griffiths’ (above left) heart stopped after the 75 year-old former engineer suffered the attack while enjoying a drink at the Hare and Hounds in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester where he was a regular, in 2020.

Fortunately, licensee Sal Dahouchi (above right) swiftly sprang into action administering CPR to the father of one.

“It all happened so quickly, but you go into automatic pilot. I performed CPR and we got him back again. But just after Roger sat up, he went into arrest again but thank goodness he came back after more chest compressions, after which the ambulance took over,” said Dahouchi.

He decided it was vital that the pub, which is owned by Joseph Holt, should have a defibrillator and is now raising money to install one in the Hare and Hounds to serve the community.

The devices help victims of attacks by sending an electric pulse to restart the heart.

Griffiths said: “I’m only here because of Sal and I think it`s wonderful what he is doing, raising money for a defibrillator. There should be one at the end of every street.”
