A long-standing pub and music venue in Deptford, South London has been granted special community status, offering protection from future threats.
The Birds Nest has been recognised as an asset of community value, following fears that future development in the area could lead to its closure.
The status can be invoked to prevent the premises’ use being changed in future planning applications and gives the community the right to bid for ownership.
The Deptford Society’s said it was delighted its application for the pub to be made an Asset of Community Value has been approved.
“This acknowledges its importance to the local music scene and community and supports the building’s continued use as a pub,” the organisation said in a Tweet.
