A Cornish brewery has celebrated two CAMRA award wins with an event for beer fans and its local community.
Treen’s brewery, in Ponsanooth, was presented with its awards at the Stag Hunt, its official taproom, with four or five of its brews permanently available. The pub is a former tied house, but is now freehold, with Treen’s brews proving popular, especially session brews Sunbeam (4.8 per cent) and Classic (4.3 per cent).
“We’re really pleased to be working alongside the Stag in this venture,” said Sarah Treen, who runs the brewery with husband and brewer Simon.
“While there has been a big increase in brewery taprooms in the last few years, we’ve always felt the traditional pub is at the heart of our business ethos, so hopefully we can now combine the best of both worlds – a great pub with a fantastic range of beer – with less than half a food mile racked up.”
In South West regional judging for the Champion Beer of Britain contest, there was silver for Cloud Cuckoo (5.9 per cent), a warming, full-bodied, malty winter ale, and bronze for Resolve (5.2 per cent), a strong dark brew with chocolate and coffee notes.
The brewery has previously won bronze in the Speciality, Differently Produced category of the Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2024 for Smoulder, (4.8 per cent ABV) a ruby, slightly fruity ale, with a note of wood smoke on the aroma.
