50 and counting in Cambridge

The Cambridge Beer Festival is here, with doors opening at 5pm today and running through to Saturday on Jesus Green.

Within those doors it’ll have everything you've come to expect. There’ll be more than 200 British real ales from 100-plus breweries and 80 ciders and perries, along with the international bar, mead and wine. Cambridge CAMRA’s cheese counter will be in its usual spot with products from around Britain, accompanied by pork pies, scotch eggs, olives, breads and more.

“Once again, we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to Jesus Green and our fantastic range of beers, ciders, mead and wine,” said festival organiser Anthony Mobbs.

“Last year we had around 38,000 people attend, and we’re hopeful the weather will hold up next week. However, even if it doesn’t, our massive marquees make sure the beer is still available for all to enjoy.”

This year the festival is having an important birthday – it's celebrating its 50th anniversary of the event in the city. Keep an eye out for beers brewed specially for the festival with suitable names! The posters, promotion and limited-edition beer glasses all follow this theme.

The event is also hosting the CAMRA Learn and Discover bar, offering tastings and an informal area where you can drop in, chat to the experts and pick their brains about all things beer.

The Family Tent welcomes children accompanied by a responsible adult and on the Saturday will feature a brass band and activities for kids.

As ever, the festival supports a charity and this year it’s Cambridge Women’s Resources Centre, the community charity dedicated to empowering, educating and encouraging women seeking positive change for themselves and their families
