Hook Norton brewery is bringing its 175th anniversary celebrations to its pubs in a unique way over the next few months.
Hooky on Tour will see the brewery visiting all of its pubs using a variety of transport – walk, cycle, motorbike, Land Rover and even shire horse.
While it is in the pub, Hook Norton beers will be free so customers can raise a cheer and a pint. The brewers will be on hand to talk all things beer and give away prizes in a quick-fire, easy pub quiz!
MD James Clarke said: “As a brewery, we would obviously be nothing without our pubs who look after and serve our beer at its best quality. We wanted to visit them all to say thank you and celebrate everything that is great about the local pub.’
The first tour date is 1 April noon, where Clarke will be riding the brewery’s shire horse Brigadier to the Pear Tree Inn, Sun Inn and Gate Hangs High in Hook Norton. While Clarke and Brigadier are outside the pubs people can enjoy free Hook Norton beers.
The brewery is also marking James Clarke’s 33 years at the company with the launch of a new beer.
XXXIII at 3.3 per cent is a dark mild-style cask ale, brewed with crystal, chocolate, enzymic and Maris Otter pale ale malts, and hopped with Fuggles and Bramling Cross.
Clarke is the great, great grandson of John Harris who started the brewery in 1849. He said: “This is a unique opportunity in our 175th anniversary year to brew a beer to celebrate my 33 years at the brewery. I decided to brew a dark mild style beer, a nod to the style of beer that was our mainstay from the early 1900s to the 1980s.”
