Wainfleet, Lincolnshire brewer Batemans is marking its 150th year with a rebrand and a new beer.
Batemans says the new logo and pump clips hark “to the past tradition of craft brewing but positioning the business strongly for the next phase of growth”.
The new beer celebrates the fifth generation of Batemans joining the family business.
Five Generations (5G) at 4.2 per cent ABV is a light amber pale ale, brewed with Maris Otter pale and oat malts, with a smooth biscuity flavour and a hop aroma of peach, pineapple, mango and passionfruit. Three English hops – Harlequin, Fuggles and Olicana – are used.
MD Stuart Bateman (above left) said: “Our new branding is modern and fresh, but with a nod to our past.”
Marketing manager Jaclyn Bateman (right) said: “We are very proud of our past and are looking forward to future challenges and successes.”
New brewer Buster Grant is recommissioning the Victorian brewhouse which has not been used for more than 20 years.
It is planned to be used for collaboration brews with Blue Monkey and Buxton brewery, which are planning their 15th anniversaries.
Stuart said: “Brewing is the backbone of our business, and we are looking forward to brewing new beers and collaborating with other breweries.”
Batemans has had a chequered history, coming through the keg beer revolution, a family dispute, being forced to sell off its free trade due to bank interest pressures and more recently Covid.
