Havercake marches back in cask

Timothy Taylor’s Havercake is back in cask this autumn and supporting ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

A robust Yorkshire ale with a full taste of malt and oats, it was first brewed to honour the soldiers of the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, affectionately nicknamed Havercake Lads. The name is derived from the oatmeal bread cake that was the staple food of the Yorkshire Pennine towns and villages where most of the soldiers lived.

Havercake has been created using a mixture of amber malt and two types of oat malt. This delivers a full-bodied, moreish ale with a creamy head and slight sweetness. Fuggles and Goldings are in the hop mix, which adds to the overall taste.

Every pint of Havercake sold will see 10p go to the Army’s national charity which supports soldiers, past and present, and their families for life.

The beer will be available at pubs throughout Timothy Taylor’s estate and across the UK.

Timothy Taylor’s Scott Cameron said: “It’s fantastic to be able to welcome back Havercake for 2022, a real crowd-pleaser and a beer we are sure will go down well again at the fantastic KWVR & Music Festival [Keighley and Worth Valley Beer and Music Festival 13-16 October].

“Timothy Taylor’s has always had very close ties with our armed forces, and to be able to support ABF The Soldiers’ Charity this year through sales of Havercake, brings us a lot of pride.”
